Use Open In, system sharing or Save to Files in the source app, then choose Markless. Menu availability depends on that app. Markless accepts documents you explicitly provide; it does not require a linked third-party account or represent an official platform partnership. Supports Markdown, HTML, ZIP web packages, CSV, SVG, JSON and plain text. Imported Word, Excel and PDF files cannot be read directly in this version.
Documents render on-device with external network resources blocked. Local HTML scripts are optional and disabled by default. Pages requiring a network, login or scripted slides may not render completely. Include local resources in a ZIP web package when needed. Optional iCloud document sync is a separate network feature and does not enable external webpage requests.
No. Content is read and processed only after you tap the system Paste control.
Save long images to Photos or use system sharing. Share a completed PDF to Files or another app. Word contains editable body text and embedded images; text inside those images cannot be edited. Excel requires a table. Open native previews of generated Word and Excel files before sharing. Photos access is add-only and does not read your photo library.
Wait for the saved-local-draft status, terminate and restart the app, then reopen editing. Local Drafts in Settings can also restore a separate copy. Cancel discards the current draft; a successful save removes it. If the original changes, save a separate copy. ZIP and files requiring relative resources cannot be edited directly.
Explicit deletion of an individual local document preserves its content and required offline resources in Settings → Local Trash. Restore a Copy creates a separate document and keeps the backup. Delete Permanently removes only the backup, keeping documents already restored from it. Clearing recent files and automatic history eviction create no recovery copy; clearing recent files also preserves existing recovery backups. Deletion on all devices and received cloud deletion create no recovery copy and remove existing local Trash records for that original. Restoration errors preserve the backup and display an error.
Sync is off by default. After confirmation, use your current Apple account to sync originals, required offline resources, names, folders and favorites. Network access, iCloud Drive and available storage are required. Drafts, Trash, thumbnails and export caches are excluded from app document sync. A restored new document can synchronize when sync is enabled. Disabling sync does not delete cloud copies. Deletion on all devices requires confirmation. Check another device to confirm it downloaded a document. System backups follow different rules from app document sync.
No. System Shortcuts accept a supported standalone file or text, open Markless for foreground conversion, and return PNG, JPEG or PDF files. ZIP is unsupported in this entry point. You decide whether to pass the returned files to a later sharing action.
Files: 16 MiB. Extracted ZIP packages: 64 MiB and 2,000 entries. CSV reading: first 500 rows. Excel: 10,000 rows per table and 100,000 cells per workbook, with explicit errors for oversized exports. Ordinary recent history keeps 20 items; favorites, folder documents and saved copies stay until deleted. Drafts and Trash use local space. Trash has no automatic expiry or capacity-eviction rule. Keep your own backup of important originals.
